Livestock consist of cattle, sheep and goat, poultry, pigs,
horses that are kept mainly for food, fibre and draft purposes.
Livestock Research Program (LRP) carryout need based applied
and adaptive researches to provide solutions.
There are four subprograms (Dairy, Meat and Egg, Animal Energy
and Honey) under Livestock Research Program in 10th FYP. The
researches under each sub-program are coordinated by a lead
researcher at the national level while RC Jakar coordinates
the overall National LRP.
At the regional level, RC Bajo emphasizes on the winter fodder
production, integrated fodder production, enrichment of crop
residues along with breeding and improved animal management
practices while improve breeds and management practices of
pig and poultry are next immediate priority. However a lesser
yet accountable amount of effort is also devoted in improved
bees production and management under the centre’s agro
ecological zones.
